Venue information
Built in 1904, the Sheldon Theatre is one of Minnesota’s oldest operating theatres and a beloved cultural landmark in Red Wing. Known as a “jewel box,” the theatre’s ornate interior features intricate plasterwork, arches, and decorative painting—preserving the elegance of its early 20th-century design. From the start, the Sheldon was a hub for touring stage shows, and while it operated primarily as a movie house from the 1930s to the 1980s, it never lost its connection to live performance.

In the 1980s, the community came together to restore the Sheldon to its original grandeur, reviving its role as a home for live arts. It reopened in 1988 with a renewed mission and a beautifully restored space. In 2018, another major renovation updated the facility while honoring its historic charm. Today, the Sheldon offers eclectic, high-quality programming and stands as a vibrant symbol of Red Wing’s past, present, and future.
